WILD SARDINE is an artistic project born in 2016 by the French designer Lysiane Dürr. The artist, based in Lisbon since 2015, entirely reinvents the sardine, emblematic animal of Portugal, disguising it in wild animals.
Her work on photo manipulation shows us the hitting contrast between the Portuguese attachment to their roots, and their widenest towards the world.
The sardine, whose body can be guessed under its costume, represents the history and culture deeply ingrained in the Portuguese hearts, whereas the skins of the animals from distant countries embody the numerous links maintained with the Portuguese speaking countries of Africa and South America over the centuries.
The enlightenment as well as the impressive number of details the artist put in each hybrid animal brings to her work an impression of reality, symbolizing the harmony between these cultures that she can feel everyday in Portugal.
